Goals
What I plan to accomplish while at UCLA
I transferred to UCLA because it is among the best places in the world to prepare for doctoral study in pure mathematics. A successful two years here means leaving with the coursework, the research experience, and the faculty relationships that make me a serious candidate for the strongest graduate programs in the field.
I do not want that to be the only thing that changes. I also want to leave more caring, patient, and discerning than I arrived, and become a better boyfriend, friend, family member, and follower of Christ. Mathematics is the reason I came here. Becoming someone worth knowing is what makes the rest of it worth anything.
Short-term goals
By the end of the 2026–27 academic year:
- Excel in Honors Real Analysis and Algebra this Fall.
- Pass the basic qualifying examination.
- Secure a faculty mentor for Math 199 directed research and the Departmental Scholar Program.
- Be accepted to a REU program for summer 2027.
Long-term goals
- Complete the three-quarter graduate analysis sequence by spring 2028.
- Complete a concurrent bachelor’s and master’s degree through the Departmental Scholar Program.
- Enter a doctoral program under an advisor whose interests closely match my own and whose standard is unsparingly rigorous. My field of interest is still open, but my preference for rigorous instruction is not.
